We support young women between the ages of 18 and 26 who are facing financial or personal difficulties. We help them through the “grey area” of need, where even a small amount of support can make a big difference.

The Alfieri-Carrù Institute was founded in 1837 by three sisters-in-law from distinguished aristocratic families: Costanza d’Azeglio Alfieri, Luisa Costa, and Costanza Alfieri. Inspired by the spirit of social progress that characterized their time, they chose to invest their dowries in the education and support of young women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
They believed that education was essential to helping women become active participants in society and achieve greater independence. In 1890, they donated the building that still houses the Institute today to the Alfieri-Carrù Foundation.
For nearly two centuries, the Institute has provided accommodation, guidance, and practical support to generations of young women, helping them overcome difficult circumstances and build independent lives. This commitment remains at the heart of our mission today.
The Alfieri-Carrù Institute is located in the heart of Turin, on Via Accademia Albertina. Open year-round, the residence can accommodate up to 60 young women.
Our residents currently come from Italy and many other countries, including Albania, Romania, and several nations in Central Africa. We welcome applications from young women of all nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
Residents contribute to the daily life and upkeep of the residence, while some are offered paid responsibilities within the Institute. Throughout their stay, they are supported by a dedicated and experienced staff committed to their well-being and personal development.
The residence offers much more than bedrooms and shared kitchens. Guests have access to a variety of communal spaces, including laundry facilities, television lounges, a study room with internet access, and a gym.
Thanks to a special partnership with the Civic Library of Turin, residents enjoy privileged access to books, textbooks, CDs, and other educational resources.
The Institute also features elegant reception rooms that can be rented for meetings, conferences, book presentations, lunches, and children's events. The income generated through these activities helps fund future scholarships and support programs for our residents.
The Alfieri-Carrù Foundation is an active and engaged non-profit organization that collaborates with several local associations and institutions.
Among our partners are San Vincenzo – Il Germoglio, which supports women facing difficult life situations; Il Bandolo, which works in the field of mental health; Via Libera, which assists women and children in situations of severe hardship; and Stefano Tempia, an organization dedicated to cultural and musical initiatives.
Through these partnerships, we provide free accommodation for women and children in need, who may stay at the Institute for periods ranging from six months to one year.
We also collaborate with VOL.TO – Centro Servizi per il Volontariato, the Volunteer Service Centre of the city of Turin, which supports the local non-profit sector.
We are proud not only to offer a safe place to live, but also to provide understanding, friendship, encouragement, and a genuine sense of community. At Alfieri-Carrù, our residents become part of a supportive and welcoming extended family.
We welcome young women between the ages of 18 and 26. Admission is subject to an introductory interview with the Admissions Committee.
Priority is given to applicants facing financial, social, or personal difficulties and who would benefit most from the opportunities and assistance offered by the Institute.
